broken heart plants

Introduction:

Hello! I am from Pak Plants.  I welcome you during the rainy season. We all choose various types of plants for our homes, selecting from a wide range of varieties and brands.

Different names of this plant:

  • One of these is the "Fat" plant.
  • It is also known as the "Broken Heart" plant in some places.
  • Its popular name is "Swiss Cheese" plant, which is also called Monstera.
  • It is sometimes referred to as Adams Monstera and in many places,
  • It is called the Five Fingers plant due to the unique holes in its leaves that make it distinct and attractive.

Indoor Characteristics:

  • In Indore, this plant thrives for a long time, especially if there's minimal light in your space or if your garden faces north.
  • This plant grows best in ideal conditions, and if you prefer it in a hanging basket, it tends to spread out nicely.
  •  However, based on my personal experience, I find that it grows better with support, like a moss pole, rather than in a hanging basket. In hanging baskets, the plant might face a shortage of nutrients, making its growth less optimal over time.
  •  Using a moss pole allows you to add fertilizers more easily and provides better nutrition to the roots, which helps the plant grow upwards effectively.

Watering process:

For watering, this plant requires moisture but should not be waterlogged. It's crucial to ensure good drainage because excess water can cause root rot.

In forest:

In tropical forests where this plant naturally grows, it thrives with regular, but not excessive, moisture.

In home:

In your home, especially during the rainy season, the plant will survive well in the ambient humidity. During the summer, water the plant twice a day, once with a bit of water and once with misting to mimic rainfall. In winter, reduce watering but ensure that the plant gets adequate moisture, avoiding waterlogging.

Sunlight Requirements:

  • Regarding sunlight, the plant needs bright, filtered light.
  • It cannot tolerate direct sunlight all day but thrives in bright, indirect light.
  • If you have an area with shade from large trees or an east-facing window, the plant will do well there. It is adapted to grow under the canopy of trees in its natural habitat, so providing similar conditions at home will help it thrive.

Propagation Process:

For propagation, this plant is quite easy.

  1.  You can take cuttings from below the nodes and place them in soil.
  2. With time, these cuttings will grow into new plants.
  3. If you have a long vine, you can cut it into sections and place them in a pot to grow new plants.
  4. Avoid using chemical pesticides; instead, opt for natural remedies if you notice any issues like bacterial diseases or mites.

Benefits:

  • This plant is really attracted by the people due to it's antique broken heart shape leaves.
  • It is an indoor plant so we carefully treat it.
  • This plant is lovely for home decoration due to it's ever green color.
  • We can grow it with its stem and make many plants of this type without any cost.
  • This plant requires less water and sunlight.
