Introduction:
Hello! Today we talk about the another your favourite plant,Adenium plant.Another name for this plant is Test Dros. As the name suggests, this is a cactus-like plant. It requires conditions similar to those for cacti: it likes bright sunlight and dislikes shade. As soon as winter arrives, it starts to go dormant, and as the temperature increases, it begins to bloom. This plant has a flowering period from spring to summer, and as winter comes, around November, its leaves will start to drop, and it will enter a dormant state. This is a plant that relies heavily on its water system, so it's very efficient in maintaining its budget for water.
Temperature:
Regarding temperature, it can tolerate temperatures up to about 27.8 degrees Celsius quite comfortably. Even in high temperatures, it thrives well. In my experience, when temperatures reach around 47-38 degrees Celsius on the roof, this plant does just fine. As the temperature drops below 30 degrees, you will notice a gradual decline in its activity. All the leaves and flowers will eventually drop, and it will enter a dormant phase, so it’s best not to disturb it during this time. Let it stay as it is. When it warms up again, it will return to its usual state and continue to bloom.
Soil Mixture:
Now, let's discuss the soil requirements. This plant does well in a well-drained soil mixture. You should use a mix that includes 50% sand, 25% compost, and 25% perlite. This mixture helps the plant grow well.
- When it comes to watering, since we’ve prepared a good soil mix, water the plant thoroughly whenever it gets dry. Ensure the water drains quickly because we have included a lot of sand in the mix. If you encounter issues with the plant, it’s usually due to overwatering or poor drainage. If your soil mix is correct, these problems should be minimal.
Watering:
For watering, you need to adjust based on the plant's location and the weather. During winter, water the plant less frequently, maybe once or twice a month, as it requires less water. If it's hot and sunny, adjust the watering frequency according to how much sun the plant gets.
Containers:
Regarding containers, the plant doesn’t need a very deep pot. A small pot is sufficient, but make sure it has good drainage. When repotting, use a pot that is slightly larger and has good drainage to accommodate the growing roots.
Sunlight:
In terms of sunlight, the more sunlight the plant gets, the better it will bloom. If it’s in partial shade, you’ll see fewer blooms, and the plant might not perform as well. If you notice your plant not thriving, try moving it to a sunnier spot.
Fertilizers:
As for fertilizers, during the growing period, you can use liquid fertilizer. In winter, avoid fertilizing as the plant is dormant. Fertilize once or twice a month during the growing season with a liquid fertilizer. I have shared several videos on liquid fertilizers which you can find in the description. Use them as per your needs.
Propagation:
Regarding propagation, this plant produces seed pods which turn brown and dry out. When the pods are ready, collect the seeds and sow them. I have shared a video on how to sow seeds, which you can check in the description.
Pruning:
For pruning, it's best to do it in October. This is when the plant is most suitable for pruning and will recover well afterward. Always ensure that the plant is pruned to maintain a compact shape, as long branches do not look as attractive.
